The National Council for Metal Detecting
The NCMD is the recognised national body representing detectorists in the United Kingdom. Every member of Midweek Searchers is registered with the NCMD, providing comprehensive public liability insurance and binding us to its Code of Conduct.
The Code is the backbone of how we operate in the field: permission first, respect for the land, careful recovery, accurate reporting, and full cooperation with landowners and archaeologists alike.
The Portable Antiquities Scheme
The PAS is the national, voluntary scheme for recording archaeological finds made by the public. We report all significant finds through our regional Finds Liaison Officer, contributing to a public database that has transformed our understanding of Britain's past.
Recording is not an obstacle to detecting, it is the very thing that justifies it. Without records, finds become anecdotes. With them, they become history.
The Treasure Act
Where finds meet the legal definition of Treasure under the Treasure Act 1996, they are reported to the local coroner within the required 14 days. Members receive guidance and support throughout the process.
